Swelling on the knee (after meniscus surgery)

by Satish Balagopal

Its been 3 weeks since i had my meniscus tear surgery. I was on crutches for the first 2 weeks. Since the last 5 days i was asked to walk which i am able to do so barely.
My knee feels wobbly when walking.
My question is
Is it normal to have swelling on my knee even after three weeks ? and , how long would it take for the swelling to subside.

effusion following any type of knee surgery is likely to last for 2-3 weeks at least. Everyone reacts differently, but it takes time for the swelling to be absorbed from inside the knee joint.

Your body goes through an inflammatory response during the first 10-14 days, and during this time may actually produce more fluid. Some swelling is common for 4-6 weeks after a meniscectomy, and often fluctuates depending on your activity levels.
