Swollen Ankle after injury that occured over 3 weeks ago

I suffered a swollen and bruised ankle after a frisbee incident 3 weeks ago.

My ankle was sore for 3-5 days, and bruised on the inside and outside of my foot for about the same amount of time. Once the bruising started to fade, the pain also left.

However, my ankle is still fairly swollen, yet I have no discomfort at all.

- I have read throughout the other pages and I do not know if the swelling will go down on its own.
- I am also unsure if I need to speak with a doctor regarding my ankle as I have full mobility and no discomfort yet the swelling is as bad as it was week one.
- As you can tell, the size of my ankle is alarming enough for me to see advice from an outside source. Currently it is about 2-3 times the size of my other ankle (only on the outside, by that big bone) I am not a medically inclined individual so I am unsure the terminology. My apologies.

If you have some advice please let me know. Much appreciated.

ankle swelling

It is very common for swelling to remain in a sprained ankle long after the pain is gone and the motion has returned.

I would recommend seeing your doctor for an X-ray, just to make sure there isn't an underlying fracture. They will also be able to test the stability of the ligaments to determine if you have any laxity or looseness. An anti-inflammatory may help to reduce the swelling, as well as rehabilitation to work on strengthening and balance.
