I am only a 14 year old male and i am pretty messed up. I tore my acl in half, my lateral meniscus in three places, my mcl, and i had a bone fracture. All this happened in football. I was supposed to do real good this year. My first year of high school and all. I was supposed to make the varsity team as a freshman. Do real good in b ball, and track. That was until this happened. It was only the first day of hitting practice. I caght the ball on a bubble screen and as i was juking outwards i got hit on the knee. No all my life i was able to bounce around. Not this time. I remember my knee going knumb. And a very sharp pain on the back of it. I couldnt put any pressure on it or it would collapse. Igot up and hopped off the feild. Beilieve it or not the trainer told me it was alright and that i should keep playing. I just said whatever even though i wanted to cry from the pain. So i played two weeks of two a days and two varsity scrimmages with it. It gave out countless times that i actually got used to the pain. I tried to hide it from my dad but he caught me limping. He sent me to the docter who told me how stupid i was. He did an mri and found what was wrong. I would need two operations. One to repair the acl and one to repair the meniscus. I am still waiting upon acl surgerie wich i can get when im done growing. I got the meniscus operation. I ended up tearing it in three places. The docter could only repair two, one he had to shave out. Now i only have about 75% of my meniscus left. I just hope ill be able to play sports as well as i used to. I heard from some people that you lose speed and agility.ill prove them wrong...

Zach,
It sounds like you are a multi-sport, multi-talented
athlete which is all the more important that you don't push too hard and get impatient. You should really be careful with your rehab to get back to the best athlete you can be later in HS and in college. The way you handle this could affect your future a great deal. Take it slow and try not to dwell on what you are missing in the short term. Good luck with your recovery! I'm 12 days post op and it seems like it will be forever before I'm back but I'm getting stronger every day and it will be worth it 6 months down the road! K

Zach, I cannot believe your coach. I'd be furious. Glad your Dad is on his toes. I am not as hurt as you, tore my ACL only- but the good news is that you are young and will recover and will prob have a better over all recovery due to your youth. From what I've read, you will have to be careful not to do too much too soon, because then you risk further injury- so listen to your docs and PT people carefully. My husband tore his ACL years ago and never had it fixed, yet was able to play tennis and racquetball at a high level. So your determination will play a huge role in your recovery. Hope you feel better soonest.
