Toni's ACL rehabilitation

by Toni
(Columbus,Indiana)

Well on June 13,2008 used patella graph for my knee surgery.
I am now 10 weeks since surgery and done with rehab. I still am unable to climb stairs without pain to the knee cap area. Also after standing for a period of time I go and sit down and feels like my stitches are ripping open or my tendon is stuck to my knee cap kind of feeling. I am unable to run either do to knee cap area tender and hurts with impact.

Done with rehab?
by: Bart - SII

At 10 weeks out, you should still be doing strengthening and balance activities 2-3 times a week. You may not be in supervised rehab, but continued strengthening is essential. You are only about 1/3 of the way through your total recovery.

Discomfort with stairs, tightness with knee flexion, and feelings of the kneecap being stuck are common. You may try massage around the patellar tendon area, and moving your patella side to side, up and down as this can help loosen the scar tissue. And keep up with your strengthening!
