I tore my ACL in 2004 while playing baseball. Fluke accident while throwing the ball in from left field. Felt and heard the imfamous "POP" and went down like I got shot. I refused to go to the hospital.....which in retrospect was a mistake. I ended up tearing both meniscus in the years following. I finally got the nerve to have surgery in 2008. I am currently in my 5th month of rehab. I developed patella tendonitis which has severely impeded my rehab.

I unfortunately and regretably went back to work 3 1/2 weeks after surgery.

I have a couple of recommendations for those contemplating surgery...DO IT NOW NOT LATER!!! Be sure to request a CPM machine for after surgery and use it religiously!!!!(at least 8 hours per day...I slept with my leg in it too.

OHHHHH....and most importantly research your surgeon before surgery and dont settle for the guy down the street. I traveled to another city in order to have it done right!

Steve - I totally agree w/ you on researching your surgeon BEFORE scheduling the surgery. Pre-hab was one of the best things my Dr. could have recommended for me. Do it now, not later - those were my Dr.s words as well.

I researched my Dr & his whole group on the net before agreeing to complete the surgery. Glad I did. You can also ask a bizzilion questions to the Dr in person on their schooling, frequency of this type of surgery, their preference for grafting & why, their research on the up & coming technologies, what they expect from rehab before & after surgery.

I am glad you posted this Steve - you can NEVER be too careful of your own health.
