Hello, well I was 14 when I tore my ACL and a slight tear in the Meniscus. I was at volleyball practice , I had made jv and I'm a freshman. I had just lounged and was about to run backwards, it was like my body went back and my knee stayed. It popped twice, and also was the worst pain I ever felt and it gave out on me. I went to the orthopedic doctor two days later, and he was pretty sure it was my ACL but wanted to have me do an MRI to make sure. We got the results four days later , it was the worst news, the first two weeks I cryed myself to sleep because I play volleyball and basketball but basketball was my life. I had surgery a month later ...I didnt feel any pain after it and I did not have to take any pain medication. I had a "pain pump" that goes in your thigh(ask doctor) that really helped me. I've been going to therapy now for 4 months, it's not as hard as you think but it defintaley isn't fun. Since volleyball season hadn't started yet, I sat through every game and basketball as begun and I have to sit through them too. It's hard to see your team play without you , and you get a new prospective of life and stuff that really matter. My biggest fear is having it happen again to me. Usually the rules for after surgery are.. 1-2 weeks before off crutches, then 3 months before you can run and walk without your brace, and 4-5 before jumping but it also depends on the person and shape. Then 8 months fully recovered but you still have to wear your brace when you run and do physical activity. If you do all the things that your doctors/therapist tell you , you will be back sooner then tearing it again when you don't listen. It is a life changer but I hope this helps you through it all. Life goes on.
