walking boot fit

I am beginning week 2 with a broken 5th metatarsal:(

During my 65 second visit with the orthopedist, he told me to continue wearing the walking boot given to me by the urgent care center and come back in 4 weeks.

Well....the BOOT is killing me and I don't want to wear it. ( I'm wearing it though)

I understand my foot hurting, but now my ankle is hurting also.
I am still having a bit of swelling also. I can only walk around for 20 minutes at a time before needing to rest it.

I'm afraid the boot is too big and is causing stress on my foot and ankle. There is an extra 2 inches or more from the tip of my toes to the end of the boot (normal?)

What is the proper fit for the boot? Any help would be appreciated :)

Thank you so much :)
Freda

boot too big?
by: Bart - SII

It does sound like your boot may be too large - your toes should come fairly close to the edge of the sole, much like fitting any other shoe.

If you have very small feet, it could be that they gave you the smallest size they had at the urgent care.

I would call and talk to your doctor (or his nurse as they will probably be more help in this situation) and explain that the boot is causing you increased pain, you think it is too large, and see if they can write a prescription for a new one that fits - medical supply stores and sometimes even the physicians offices will have these in stock - definitely worth trying to fix rather than putting up with it for another 4 weeks.
