It was the rival game of senior year for volleyball. It was time to beat this team for sure. They needed to be put in their place. I was on a mission.
But after my 4th point for our team, my senior year was ruined. My life was ruined. There were not enough tears for what it meant to me. I had been ready to sign a scholarhip offer next month. It was NOT the way I wanted to spend my 18th birthday-on crutches! Unfortunately, for ME, it was the dreaded ACL. The 2nd one on my team to go down.
Surgery was in November right before Thanksgiving. It seems like a blur now, thankfully.
My doctor was great. He did a couple of ACL's that day. He does them at least 2x week. Pick a doc who does alot-not someone who does one a month or two a year. Do your homework, it's your knee.
My college volleyball team pulled the scholarship but I still got to play on the team. They didn't want to challenge my knee until I was a full year past surgery. I came in to preseason pretty good shape. I was at 9 months for preseason. My knee was pretty sore, but I got through it with a little ice. Now it doesn't bother me at all.
After physical therapy, I did a Velocity bridge program for athletes with injuries. A month before I was scheduled to go to school they switched me to a regular class. I also did a few private volleyball lessons to challenge me with volleyball skills--I have to admit, that hurt. I must have been breaking up some scar tissues. I hadn't touched a ball in 9 months. It worked for me cause now I am playing for a D1 team!
