My knee hurts when I tried to jump rope, I have complete ACL tear...

I have a complete ACL tear on my left leg, got it about 6 years ago. It has never been repaired. It never hurts, only gives out sometimes when I go too fast down stairs or walk too fast. Yesterday, I started to jump rope, and within 5 jumps, my left knee hurt. I stopped jumping for a few minutes and tried again, and it instantly hurt. I tried again today, and again, instant pain. Any ideas? Thanks! Erica

jump rope
by: Bart - SII

Jump rope is a fairly high level activity for the knees, and something that your knee isn't used to right now. Because their is no ACL, the muscles have to help stabilize the knee during the activity. You may need some exercises to help improve your neuromuscular control before you can jump rope without pain.

If this is an activity that you want to be able to do, you may need some rehab to get your body ready for jump roping. Your doctor may be able to help provide some rehabilitation recommendations.

Jump Rope with Patella Femoral
by: Anonymous

Hi,

I'm having a bit of pain when jumping rope. I've been diagnosed with PFS in the past but only have issues with certain activities, such as running.

Can I jump rope, or should I just stay away from it altogether? I would like to jump rope but I don't want to do long-term damage to my knee (only the right one has PFS).

I have your ebook on PFS. It makes perfect sense to me because my hip strength and flexilibity have always been my weak points. I'm just starting the exercises in the book.

I've been to PTs in the past but never stuck with them because they went right to heavy duty squats with me. I look fit and they thought I could handle it, but it really only made my knee pain worse.

I'm hoping your plan will work for me.

what's wrong with me?!
by: alex

hi, I really really need some help. I am 10 months post-acl reconstruction. I used the patella graft from the same knee (left). my left quad does not yet look as strong as my right quad so clearly isn't back to its original strength yet but my left knee hurts instantly when I start jumping rope. what the heck is wrong??!! it shouldn't hurt doing that 10 months post op should it? and its jumping on 2 legs too...not even just 1....1 is practically impossible for me! I don't know what to make of it....did I reinjure or something? need answers please please please!!
