My knee hurts when I tried to jump rope, I have complete ACL tear...

I have a complete ACL tear on my left leg, got it about 6 years ago. It has never been repaired. It never hurts, only gives out sometimes when I go too fast down stairs or walk too fast. Yesterday, I started to jump rope, and within 5 jumps, my left knee hurt. I stopped jumping for a few minutes and tried again, and it instantly hurt. I tried again today, and again, instant pain. Any ideas? Thanks! Erica

Jump rope is a fairly high level activity for the knees, and something that your knee isn't used to right now. Because their is no ACL, the muscles have to help stabilize the knee during the activity. You may need some exercises to help improve your neuromuscular control before you can jump rope without pain.

If this is an activity that you want to be able to do, you may need some rehab to get your body ready for jump roping. Your doctor may be able to help provide some rehabilitation recommendations.
