Question - AC Seperation Rehab

by Bart
(Boise, ID)

I had an AC separation in early April 2008. Most of the pain has been gone for several months but strength and full mobility has not returned. My shoulder feels swollen and the muscles seem to have a gap in them now. I have been doing exercises recommended by an athletic trainer to strengthen my shoulder but the healing process seems to be taking longer than I was told it would take.

What can I do to rehab my shoulder more effectively?

Scapular Stabilizer exercises are best
by: Bart - SII

Restoring your range of motion may need to incorporate some joint mobilizations or other types of manual therapy techniques - you may have lost some of the normal joint motion within the shoulder. These things can be done by your athletic trainer or a physical therapist.

Strengthening should make sure to incorporate exercises for the scapular stabilizers and rotator cuff - exercises that involve multiple planes of motions and multiple muscles are best suited for shoulder strengthening, rather than isolated exercises.
