Question - Sprained Wrist (exercises)

by Israel

Thank you for the informative article on sprained wrists. I injured my wrist two weeks ago (I fell on the skateboard), and there is little pain in some motions. It is not swollen, it just bothers a little bit when I turn it. Is it okay to lift dumbbells even with this pain? I would like to do wrist exercises to strengthen it. How long does it usually take to heal and what should I do to heal it?

Thank you

Pain free exercises only

It sounds like a minor sprain from what you describe...gentle range of motion exercises to start with, and then progressing to strengthening after that...as long as the exercises are not painful.

Wrist sprains can take several weeks to get completely better - during that time just go slow and don't over do things...

If it doesn't continue to get better or if it gets worse, you need to see your doctor and have an X-ray to make sure you don't have a fracture...sometimes you can break a bone and it doesn't swell or even have a lot of pain, but continues to cause problems.

Hope this helps - comment back with other questions.

its annoying

but yeah over time you kinda get used to it, the pain goes away by itself after a few days. The basic test is if you can't pick up something like a phone or a book then you should probably see a doctor but if it just stings a little it'll be fine. its just tweaked a little, best thing to do though is don't skate stairs (I mean starting around 6 or 7 ) because that one random bail where you catch yourself with you hand is gonna hurt and most likely retweak it. tweaks suck, I keep tweaking my right ankle, it eventually goes away but I hate that feeling you get...
