Question - Tendons Breakdown in the Shoulder

by Frank

My mother just had surgery to repair tendons in her shoulder...but the x-rays did not show the severity of the problem.

After going in to repair the tendons the doctor realized that the tendons had worn away and it was bone rubbing on bone, and other then scrapping the area, there was nothing else he could do.

He proceeded to tell my mother that she would be going for therapy and she was going to be limited to what she could do with that shoulder as he could not fix the problem.

My mother is 64 years old and has worked extremely hard since she was 13 .

Is there any type of injections that could take the place of those tendons between the bones to help relieve the pain?

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

Rehab might help some...
by: Bart - SII

Rehabilitation may help with her condition some - it may help restore normal daily activities and reduce her pain - if she is able to adequately strengthen the surround shoulder muscles to help stabilize the shoulder and decrease the amount of bone on bone rubbing.

Unfortunately, she may be a candidate for a shoulder replacement at some point - when the pain becomes too much to allow for a good quality of life. Hopefully rehab can help.

As far as injections - she might benefit from cortisone injections periodically, but those are usually limited in their results.

I wish I could provide more positive information.
