regaining range of motion
by: Bart - SII

It is possible to regain some range of motion, depending on what is causing the restrictions. If it is tight muscles, stretching regularly can help with improving range. If it is scar tissue/adhesions, stretching can also help, but it may take much longer.

Rehab after TP fracture
by: Anonymous

I was injured as a pedestrian in an auto accident (car ran a red light) and had surgery to repair a fracture of my tibia which ran vertically down through the plateau in early March of this year. I had steel supports implanted as part of the repair.

I was off my foot entirely for 3 months and then allowed to toe touch as I got around in a walker. Two weeks later I was able to put partial weight on my foot, still with the walker and now, in July I started full weight bearing. I've had 90 minute physical therapy sessions 3x a week since mid March, which continue and will run probably through the end of the year. I'm back to work after 5 months and walk with a cane and leg brace.

I feel more stiffness than pain now, although at times it can flare up. There's also numbness in an arc down around the incision site - which I'm told may go away after as long as a year from now. The PT has helped immensely and critical to the success of this is the active involvement of the therapist and the motivation of the patient. I'm lucky, my PT is great - very hands on and dedicated, some will point you to a machine and say do 10 minutes of ...

Still a little unstable, but only walking for three weeks! Probably no skiing for me this Winter but I'm optimistic for the future.

Tibial plateau fracture and ROM
by: Becky

Hi,

I fractured my tibial plateau and ruptured my ACL and it took a year and a half to regain full movement in my knee. I had an arthroscopy 9 months after the injury as I wasn't recovering, which is when the ACL was discovered.

If you are working on your knee daily and have still not regained the full range, maybe you could ask your consult about an arthroscopy to see if anything is blocking the joint. Otherwise as other comments suggest, it could be tight muscles in which case just stretch as much as you can. Research shows stretches should be held for 30 seconds to be effective.

Good luck with it x
