Hip Flexor Injury or Not

by Tara

Okay. I'm an athlete and I run ALOT! Just recently I have been experiencing severe pain in the hip area. It hurts to walk. I'm really not sure if its a hip flexor injury or if its something different. The only reason I'm doubtful that its my hip flexor is because it hurts to cough and laugh. Is it a hip flexor injury?

hip flexor
by: Bart - SII

It could be a hip flexor injury - part of the hip flexor muscles - the illiacus and illiopsoas run very deep in the hip and actually come from your lower lumbar spine - they run very close to the abdominal muscles and so coughing and laughing could irritate them. This isn't a normal symptom of a hip flexor strain though.

I would definitely recommend seeing a doctor about this just to find out exactly what is going on. That way you can get it taken care of and get back to walking and running again.

hip flexor injury or not???
by: Jenny

I'm curious how Tara is doing. I have a similar pain that seems to lessen when I take ibuprofen but I don't want to take it all the time. My pain is on the left side of my hip - not the front. Tara said hers hurt when she laughed - mine hurts when I sneeze. If I've been running it seems to bother me more. Sometimes I can't even cross that leg. It also seems to bother more when I'm getting up from a seated position than when I'm actually walking or running.

I have the same pain in the back of my left hip flexor as described here. What is the answer or response regarding healing it and preventing future hip flexor injuries?
Thank you,
Heidi
